More than a headache
Migraine can cause a throbbing headache, nausea and sensitivity to light and sound. Some people experience an aura, such as visual changes. Other headache types can feel different, and symptoms alone do not confirm a diagnosis.
Keep a record
Record when headaches happen, how long they last, associated symptoms and any medicines taken. A diary helps your clinician understand the pattern and possible triggers.
When to seek help
Arrange an assessment for frequent, disabling or changing headaches. A sudden extremely severe headache, new weakness, confusion, fever with neck stiffness or headache after injury needs urgent attention.
