When recurrent headaches need an assessment

Changes worth discussing with your doctor.

Notice a changing pattern

Discuss headaches that become more frequent, affect work or sleep, or feel different from your usual pattern. Frequent use of pain relief can sometimes contribute to headaches.

Prepare for the consultation

Bring a list of your medicines and a headache diary. Describe associated nausea, visual symptoms and how headaches affect everyday activities.

Urgent warning signs

Seek urgent care for a sudden severe headache or one with new weakness, confusion, seizure, fever and neck stiffness, or after a head injury.
