Understanding early Parkinson’s symptoms

Tremor is only one part of the picture.

Movement changes

Parkinson’s disease can cause slowness, stiffness and tremor. Walking, handwriting or facial expression may change. These signs can also have other causes.

Beyond movement

Sleep, mood, bowel function and sense of smell may change in some people. No single symptom proves a diagnosis.

Seek an assessment

Discuss persistent or progressive symptoms with a doctor. A neurological examination helps determine the next steps. Sudden movement changes or weakness require urgent care.
